Dagny

The state girls swim meet takes place this weekend and for Minot swimmer Dagny Knutson it brings to end a fantastic career at the high school level before moving on to the national and world stage Her accomplishments are something the school has never seen before and may never see again Mike Elm reporting It was 6 years ago that a fresh faced 6th grader from Jim Hill middle school began her illustrious career that included the Minot High girls swim team She had already begun to turn heads being recognized as a legitimate national champion and 6 years later has re-written all of the Majettes school swim records But now Dagny Knutson s high school career has reached an end with this weekend s state swim meet Dagny who holds 5 state record as the school s most successful swimmer and arguably the best athlete to walk the halls of Minot High Jake Solper MHS girls swim coach You talk to any coach any swimmer across the state and they ll all tell you that they re so supportive of that she has coming up in her future Where I don t know that anyone s gonna dwell on the fact that she s no longer gonna be part of our team but we ll continue to follow her and just be excited for everything that is to come for Dagny Dagny Knutson senior I m not one who usually cries or anything but I think it ll eventually hit me that it s over and I think swimming 6 years this will be my 6th season on the team and I ve had a lot of memories to look back on and it ll be definitely sad when it s over but it s exciting to start a new chapter after it s over Elm For Dagny this weekends state meet is just the closing of one door as the continues to open others at the national and world level Solper She s proven it before and it s not that she has to strive to get there now after high school because she s already made it to that level and she ll continue to stay there and just grow from where she s at now and just become more and more remarkable Elm Despite reaching the level of a world class swimmer Dagny s enthusiasm for a sport she loves continues to show at every level Knutson Yesterday I did a hundred free time off the wall from practice and it was my best hundred free in a practice so that was really encouraging I ve been waiting for this meet for a few months and it s the best time of the year The state meet takes place in Grand Forks tomorrow and runs through Saturday
