Escape to the Lake


More than 100 people are at Lake Nelson near Center this weekend as part of the andamp lt a href andamp quot http www kxnet com t north-dakotaandamp quot class andamp quot kxInlineLinkandamp quot andamp gt North Dakotaandamp lt aandamp gt Association for the Disable Escape to the Lake event Reporter Kate Schell has the story More than 50 people all dealing with physical disabilities took to the water today for some fun in the sun andamp quot We re having our 15th evenT of adaptive aquatics Escape to the Lake we call it It s for people that are not able to water ski under normal means and we get people who typically use wheel chairs and have trouble emulating out on the lake water skiing and eNjoying it like the rest of us do andamp quot says Ron Gibbens President and CEO NDAD And wheel chairs and braces would be the last thing to stop this group of ambitious skiers With the help from andamp lt a href andamp quot http www kxnet com t texasandamp quot class andamp quot kxInlineLinkandamp quot andamp gt Texasandamp lt aandamp gt Adaptive Aquatics kids and adultsalike were able to participate andamp quot We pretty much have all adaptable equipment what we do is adapt to their disability and once we get them in gear Get them out of their wheel chair out of their crutches out of their braces and we adapt to their disability and get them out on the water and they have a great time andamp quot says Roger Randall Texas Adaptive Aquatics And it s the great times that keep this self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie coming back andamp quot I got dumped in the water last year Stuff like that keeps me coming back I like stuff like that andamp quot says Jacey Enget Skier andamp quot For a lot of them it s the only sporting activity that they are able to participate in Usually they are spectators this is something where they are actually a participants its great andamp quot says Ron Gibbens President and CEO NDAD For Barbara Bergstedt it took over three hours to get to Nelson Lake She has two children with physical disabilities and is thrilled they were able to participate andamp quot We sure do appreciate the effort and that someone does this to give those kids a chance to do something normal andamp quot says Barbara Bergstedt Wimbledon Today s events were a combined effort between the N-D-A-D Sporting Chance Texas Adaptive Aquatic and the Aberdeen Aqua Addicts
